What is Nutrition?
Nutrition is the process of people nourishing themselves with food and drink and is fundamental to health. All living beings eat and drink every day throughout the world. Food can be a powerful medicine and an opportunity for personal change. What we eat and drink is the very substance of our bodies and affects every function of the human body.
When diet is wrong medicine is of no use. When diet is correct medicine is of no need.”
-Ayurvedic Proverb
Many of Tai Sophia Institute’s acupuncture and herbal practitioners incorporate nutrition into the work they do with clients. Tai Sophia’s nutritionists are focused primarily on diet, food selection and eating habits as tools to enhance the health of the individual.
Philosophy of our Nutritionists
At Tai Sophia, we believe that each individual is unique as are the foods that will best serve one’s health and vitality. There are several universal principles of healthy nutrition that we apply in our work with our clients:
- Good nutrition is more than the nutrients we consume; it encompasses our relationship to our food, our bodies and the planet.
- A combined knowledge of current scientific literature and traditional models of eating provides a balanced and flexible attitude towards healthy eating.
- Mindfulness helps guide good nutrition and healthy food choices.
- Unprocessed, whole foods are considered to be the most beneficial nourishment for the body.
- A diet rich in plant foods is fundamental to disease prevention.
- Body weight is best managed using a multidisciplinary approach, including support for body, mind, and spirit.
